In October, Lattis spent several days in Klukwan, Alaska, teaching and mentoring concerning leadership and leadership development. Klukwan is a Tlingit village located near Haines, Alaska. Klukwan sits on the Chilkat River in the Valley of Eagles. Klukwan is about a 15 hour drive from Big Lake, Alaska. Below are some of the photos taken in route to Klukwan and during Lattis's time there.

Lani Hotch, wife of Jones Hotch, has been instrumental in getting grants for the financing of a Traditional Knowledge Camp in Klukwan. The purpose of the camp is to teach new generations of Tlingits the traditions of the elders. This longhouse, a traditional type of Tlingit dwelling, was erected by the men of the village. The boards on the sides are hand-hewn. Jones, who is giving leadership to the church in Klukwan, helped and, along with other Tlingit uncles and elders, gave some leadership on this project as well. Inside the longhouse is a traditional type of artistic screen. These figures were hand-carved by various members of the village. This screen actually tells a story.

Jones points out some of the carvings he personally did. This is a work shed built by the men of the village at the Traditional Knowledge Camp. This shed will be used for building larger projects such as a boat. On the front posts is a symbol of the two moieties of the Tlingit people - an Eagle and a Raven.

This is inside of the smokehouse at the Traditional Knowledge Camp. Younger generations of Tlingits are being taught how to smoke salmon, fix berries, and clean and prepare moose. This is the original door to the smokehouse, but is no longer used. On the door is written, in Tlingit, "smoke house."
